Huawei P8 and P8 Max Announced

Huawei P8 and P8 Max Announced

P8 is the successor to Ascend P7 and follows the same design language by improving the design of
Ascend P7. Huawei has changed the choice of material on back cover to metal just like on the
Ascend P6. As a result of this Huawei P8 gets more solid unibody design just like HTC One series and Iphone 6. P8 has a 5.2inch 1080P JDI built IPS-Neo display and the phone is about the same size as
Iphone 6. Huawei managed to achieve this by slimming down bezels so that screen employs 78.3%
of the P8’s front real estate.

P8 is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 930 just like we expected and you can see our detailed article
about Kirin 930 right here – http://huaweinews.com/2015/03/kirin-930-official/. Basically Kirin 930 has
 4 Cortex-A53 1.5Ghz cores and 4 Cortex-A53 2.0Ghz cores for more demanding tasks.
Specifications of P8,
Processor – HiSilicon Kirin 930 Octa-Core
GPU – Mali-T628MP4
RAM – 3GB LPDDR3
Storage – 16GB or 64GB with MicroSD slot
Display – 5.2 inch 1080 IPS LCD
Network – 4G Cat 6 LTE
Camera – 13MP RGBW sensor with OIS / 8MP front
OS – Android 5.0.2
EMUI version – 3.1
Connectivity – GPS/GNSS/microUSB 2.0/DLNA/BT 4.1/WiFi N
Sim – Nano SIM
Battery – 2680mAh

Huawei has put a 13MP primary camera inside the P8 with 4 color pixel technology which they claims
worlds first. Camera sensor is made by Sony and the model name is unknown. Individual pixel size
claimed to be 1.12µm and comes with OIS. Lets hope RGBW sensor won’t be a gimmick because
Huawei needs lots of improvements in camera department to compete with smartphones like
Galaxy S6 and Iphone 6. Thankfully there is no camera protrusion on P8 like on Galaxy S6,Iphone 6
and One M9. Huawei P8 is also said to be come with fast charging option and included charger
supports it so you don’t have to shell out more money to buy another charger. P8 also has dual
antennas and dual 4G LTE support for both sim cards. Unfortunately 802.11ac WiFi doesn’t seem to
be included on the spec sheet so we guess P8 is stuck at the previous generation 802.11n dual band
 WiFi.
Huawei P8 comes in 4 different colors as you can see on the first picture above.
Those are named “Titanium Grey” / “Mystic Black Champagne” / “Prestige Gold” and “Carbon Black”.
Last 2 color options are only available with the 64GB version of P8.

Huawei P8 Max

Huawei P8 Max is the large sibling of P8. Super sized phones are becoming the norm in Asian
countries so Huawei might have decided to capitalize on the market demand by introducing a super
sized version of P8 named P8 Max.

P8 Max has identical internals as the P8 and only difference apart from the screen size and battery is
that front camera is 5MP on P8 Max instead 8MP which we saw on P8. Screen size is bumped to
6.8 inches and P8 Max boasts 83% screen to body ration so compared to other phablets out there,
P8 Max is little bit smaller and easier to handle. Resolution is still 1080P and display technology
remains the same as with P8. P8 Max weighs 228g and its dimensions are 182.7 x 93.0 x 6.8 mm.

Battery has been given a bump on P8 Max to 4360mAh and it will easily last long for 2 days of regular usage.
Huawei claims that both P8 and P8 Max will be available in 30 countries within a month and P8 will
cost 499 euros for the 16GB model and 599 euros for the 64GB model. P8 Max will cost 549 euros
for 16GB and 649 euros for the 64GB variant.
