2017 Apple iPhone likely to include dual-curved OLED display
Well 2017 looks pretty much certain to be the road-opening year of sharper, not-necessarily-pricier OLED iPhones, the jury is still out on whether we’ll also see Apple adopt curved display technology manufactured by Samsung in 12 or 24 months.
It still remains unclear how many of next year’s Apple iPhone 8 (7s?) configurations will be able to move away from LCD screens as well, and what kind of production rates Cupertino can realistically hope for with a sole OLED supplier most likely in its corner.
Also definitive answers to these very delicate questions are obviously impossible to formulate in the near future, though fairly credible sources “familiar with Apple’s plans” today reiterate their best guesses.
As all these things stand, three main 2017 Apple iPhone models are in the (tentative) pipeline, including a premium variant with a 5.5-inch or larger OLED panel “bent on the two sides.” The “edgy” Galaxy Note 7 copycat of sorts should be joined to market by a pair of traditional 4.7/5.5-inch iOS handhelds still equipped with LCD screens, this time of the LTPS (low-temperature poly-silicon) variation.
One thing for sure is entire Apple iPhone 8/7s lineup could get a major design overhaul, with today’s largely metallic casings replaced by a “front glass cover and chassis, joined by a metal bezel.” Just keep in mind it’s all unfounded speculation at the moment, and a similar trio of iPhone 7 flavors was in the works this year before the Pro eventually got canceled.
